Do you have to tell your child over and over the same thing, but they hear a song on the radio or see an action once and can almost with learn it the first time? Is your child a perfectionist? Talkative? Do they experience highs and lows? If any of these traits strike you, your child could have ADHD or be Bipolar.. NOW, before you call all your family members and tell them IT happened to you, your kid is different, consider this.. Hyperactivity followed by prolonged depression appears to be more prevalent in HIGHLY CREATIVE people. 2-3 million to be exact. Some of the most creative minds in business have admitted to bipolar disorder or ADHD. 10% of depressants are able to use their increased stamina, self- confidence and enthusiasm to actually perform BETTER than "normal" individuals. A business owner who admitted having bipolar said that its their brain chemistry working rather than ups and downs. It's also said that there are "advantages" to having ADHD. Their distractibility ensures nothing will be missed. Their impulsivity gives them the ability to make quick decisions. If ADHD and bipolar disorders are truly handicaps, then how do you explain why so many CEOs and great achievers seem to have it? Why is it that these two "disorders" seem to run through the viens of some of the greatest people who made history and shaped the way we life today. A genius is not someone with better ideas. We all have that pure stroke of genius now and then. However when a "normal" person gets that "stroke of genius", it seems so strange, so abnormal, so unrealistic from what everyone else thinks that they discard it. They revert back to what's familiar. A genius doesn't care about what others say. They are not afraid of developing their idea. They DEFINITELY don't care about being different. ADHD people not only THINK outside the box, they LIVE outside the box, so being different is in their makeup. They are used to it. You can't tell a person with ADHD they CAN'T, because they WILL! They would be more than happy for the opportunity to develop an idea without worry of what someone thinks of them. We are comfortable with being different because of how WE VIEW OURSELVES. Understand that the way your child views themselves is shaped by YOU, THE PARENT. My mother and granny told me early on that I was different and to embrace my uniqueness. I got in trouble in school. They said I talked too much. It was because I was the only one done with my work. What was I supposed to do? I wasn't a stranger to suspension either. As parents we need to support them. Build their self esteem. Teach them to value their talents and use them to their advantages. Most importantly, don't let school difficulties label them as failures. I think my son has ADHD in its RAWEST form. He's four and can delegate his ass off. So I won't try to make him conform. He can't hold info long enough to carry out the duty, but he can get someone else to do it before he forgets it. The school system will probably say he's too stupid. I say I have an entrepreneur on my hands.
